THE LEGACY OF THE PROVINCE OF BENGUET

One of the many things I’m proud of my province is the absence of election related violence most especially killings. Our politicians or candidates treat politics as game. While the game is on, they played with all their heart expecting to win over the other. At the end, however whatever the result may be they remained friends and even allies for the betterment of the province. The mentioned legacy of the province of Benguet should be maintained. In order for the province to be model that politics is a mere game played by the rules and requires not shedding of blood.
With this, the people of Benguet should nominate and elect genuine residents of the province; and never allow candidates from other places, whom we called “dayo” to lead our baranggays, municipalities and province. I suppose that once we allow “dayos” to be our leaders this may be the beginning and eventual decline of our peaceable province. Sooner or later Benguet will be one of the hotspots provinces during election. Because “dayos” cannot fully understand the culture and the people of Benguet.

We ought to protect our province on evil ideology of politics: to kill and create havocs in order to win an office. This should never happen and it should never be. Let the legacy be carried on and on. The key then is to continually elect competent genuine people of Benguet - one who was born and raised in the province, one who understands the people and the culture, and one who see politics as mere game. Most of all, one who has a servant heart in public service for the betterment of the province of Benguet and its people.
